Yukon sits in eastern Canadian County, about 16 miles west of downtown Oklahoma City, just north of I-40 and along historic Route 66, with State Highways 4 and 92 running through town (Oklahoma Historical Society). It is a residential suburb for a lot of metro workers, and it takes holiday lights seriously: Christmas in the Park is one of the region’s biggest free displays. It’s also where I live. Here is what matters when you add permanent lighting here.
A growing suburb with mostly owner-occupied homes
Census QuickFacts for Yukon city, Oklahoma (accessed October 6, 2026) show a town that has grown quickly (U.S. Census Bureau):
- Population estimate July 1, 2025: 27,615, up 16.8% from the 2020 estimates base; 2020 census count: 23,630
- Land area (2020): about 26.5 square miles
- Owner-occupied housing rate (2020 to 2024 ACS): 68.9%
- Median value of owner-occupied homes: $198,900; median monthly owner costs with a mortgage: $1,530
- Households: 9,593; persons per household: 2.63
- Median household income (2020 to 2024 ACS, in 2024 dollars): $75,273; poverty rate: 8.8%
For lighting, that mix usually means single-family roofs with front gables, garage runs and street-facing sides that neighbors actually see. Growth also means a spread of home ages: older in-town streets and newer subdivisions toward the edges. We measure your actual roofline, check fascia and gutters, and price by linear feet on the Good, Better and Best tiers.
Yukon is also known as Oklahoma’s “Czech Capital”. A Bohemian community settled here around the turn of the 20th century, and Czech Day has been held every year since 1966 (Oklahoma Historical Society).
Christmas in the Park
Yukon’s signature holiday display is Christmas in the Park: free admission, open from the Saturday before Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve, 6 to 11 p.m. nightly, with about 5 million lights and 500+ displays. The drive starts in City Park and finishes in Chisholm Trail Park (City of Yukon calendar; TravelOK).
Permanent lights put your house on that same calendar without the November ladder trip or the January takedown. Schedule the holiday scene once in the app, and it comes back every year.
Outdoor lighting and light-trespass rules
Yukon’s Unified Development Code (Chapter 215) includes outdoor lighting and residential light-trespass standards (Municode). The city has updated those provisions in recent ordinances, so the details can change.
What this means for you: Yukon has rules for outdoor residential lighting and light trespass, and they have changed recently. Before we quote, we check the current code with the city for your address and design. If something won’t work on your house, we’ll tell you. This is a summary, not legal advice.
Development Services handles building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits: 405-354-6676, [email protected], 334 Elm Avenue (City of Yukon). We confirm whether your project needs a permit before we lock a price.
Powered by OG&E
Homes in Yukon are typically served by OG&E, not a city-owned utility. Permanent LED lighting uses little power. To estimate it yourself: kWh = total watts × hours on ÷ 1,000. A system drawing 100 watts for 6 hours a night uses about 0.6 kWh a night, or roughly 18 kWh a month. Multiply that by the rate on your OG&E bill. Your quote lists the rated wattage of the system we propose.
HOAs: check your subdivision, not a citywide rule
We found no citywide HOA mandate for Yukon. Many subdivisions still use private covenants that can treat permanent exterior hardware as an architectural change, even when hanging seasonal decorations does not. We check the covenants for your neighborhood and put together what review committees usually ask for: product specs, the mounting method, track color and a night mockup.
How a project works in Yukon
- Start online or in person. A free night mockup with a price for each tier starting from $27/ft, or an in-person visit.
- Rules check. We re-check outdoor lighting and light-trespass rules and HOA covenants for your address.
- Measure and plan. We measure the roofline and plan zones and power.
- Install. We mount the light track, wire the controller and set up the app with you.
